Together We Play

Children who live in marginalized areas that are deprived of services, like El Omranya, play only in the streets and are deprived of many important sports; but the working children are deprived of all types of playing, and of having fun with their friends.

We all know how important playing is for the psychological and social growth of children. It is the path for social relationships because the boy/girl learns through the concept of give and take and the concept of “I want something and you want something else”; hence, we need to reach a middle ground among us to play and enjoy. (Psychology of playing).

Through playing, we know more about ourselves and about our friends.

We, in the association, play with the children, rather than let them play. We enjoy and learn how we belong to each other, and how to belong to the place. They learn how to make lasting friendships. Each working child works on a separate workshop from early morning to late night and all what he has is a colleague that is older than him;this colleague is usually his boss, and in the sametime a subordinate to the workshop owner.

Therefore, forming groups compensates the deprivation of the boy/girl of the school’s friendships. It teaches him/her that making friendships on the basis of being children with similar conditions. This forms internal solidarity. They help each other; so when one of them quits working in a workshop, because the owner/boss is abusive for example, his friends from the group look for another work for him in another workshop.

This is why we are keen during the activity days, Sundays and Fridays, to diversify the groups and playing techniques, between cooperation sometimes and competition on other times. In the theatre, it is possible for some groups to integrate to make parts of one sketch or different episodes of one play.

Playing shouldn’t only be a means of filling free time. Some games have pedagogical and developmental goals. It is possible through games to learn Arabic, arithmetic, geography and other useful sciences.

Among the games that we, as well as our children love are:

- The handkerchiefgame.

- Musical chairs.

-The ball.

- The room games like The Lemon, The Riddles, Educational Games, Theatrical Games, Play Station, Billiard, Ping Pong, and The Hammock.
